Dr. Waer has been a general surgeon since 1997 and is currently a professor in the Department of Surgery on the Educator Scholar Track at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson. She completed her medical school training at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in 1992, followed by her general surgery residency training, also at the University of Arizona. She then went to Virginia Beach, Virginia where she practiced general surgery in a private group practice for seven years. She returned to Tucson and the University of Arizona in 2004 to develop the general surgery department at the University of Arizona Medical Center at South Campus.  She then served five years as the surgery Clerkship Director, followed by two years as the surgery residency Associate Program Director, and then five years as the surgery residency Program Director. In July 2010, she was invited to serve as the Interim Assistant Dean for Medical Student Education. In July 2013, she began the full-time position of Associate Dean for Medical Student Education. As Associate Dean, she oversees the Rural Health Professions Program and throughout each academic year she travels throughout Arizona doing site visits, appreciation dinners, and recruitment for the rural faculty preceptors. As of June 2016, she was fortunate to become the Medical Director for the Arizona Telemedicine Program.
