Dr. Burdick is the Associate Dean for TeleHealth and Clinical Outreach and Professor of Dermatology at the University of Miami (UM) Miller School of Medicine with over 20 years of experience in telehealth. She has presented and published extensively on telehealth and teledermatology. A charter member of the American Telemedicine Association (ATA) and a Fellow of the ATA College of Fellows, Dr. Burdick served on the ATA Board of Directors and chaired its Nominations Committee. She was Founding Chair of the ATA Special Interest Group on Teledermatology, a member of the Telemedicine Journal and e-Health Editorial Board and Co-Chair of the workgroup that developed the ATA Practice Guidelines for Teledermatology.
Dr. Burdick headed the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) Telemedicine Task Force and spearheaded the Academy’s Position Statement on Telemedicine and AAD endorsement of the ATA Practice Guidelines for Teledermatology. As Associate Dean for TeleHealth and Clinical Outreach, Dr. Burdick leads UM’s telemedicine services in the US and internationally. Under her leadership, UM TeleHealth provides remote pediatric specialty consultations to students in Miami-Dade County public schools and children in the Florida Department of Health Children’s Medical Services in genetics, psychiatry, neurology, dermatology and nutrition, and telestroke services through a contract with Specialists on Call. Store-and-forward teledermatology consults are provided to crew on 2 major cruise lines, individuals in U.S. Indian Health Services and in the Alaska Native Tribal Consortium.
